Phillip Daltons Life On The Tiles

Dalton Roofing has had a successful career so far. Founded in 1990, they very quickly became established in the region, thanks to its outstanding service and competitive prices.

At the age of just 28, Philip was elected as the youngest ever president of Sheffield’s Federation of Master Builders. Even in those early years the business secured some impressive clients as well as looking after residential customers – one big name in particular was Sainsbury’s. Dalton Roofing was commissioned to fit a flat roof to the temporary walkway erected during refurbishment work at the store on Archer Road. Other large projects that Philip and his team undertook in those early years included re-roofing the former Planet nightclub in Worksop, re-roofing Bolsterstone Village Hall and also extensive work for Sheffield engineering firm Pentag Manufacturing.

Phil was 16 when he began working as a roofer. Even at that young age he knew he wanted a business of his own someday. He soon gained his City and Guilds certificate for roof slating and tiling, and then he went to marketing and business studies seminars at Sheffield TEC. He was a mere 20 when he set up his own business. He found that many people wouldn’t take him seriously because he looked so young. “I took a lot of flak for wanting to run my own business at a young age, so I began wearing a uniform and carrying a clipboard to feel more confident and professional.”

Despite his young age back then, he made Dalton Roofing a success, and now, more than 20 years on, Dalton Roofing is still going strong, and customer service is still the key to the business. They recognise that people in Sheffield prefer small family roofing businesses to large roofing contractors as they are more likely to get a fair deal, and that’s exactly what they offer.
